Union City RR

There were 14 or 15 of us in the M45+ RR in Union City.  There were two guys from Atlanta Roof and two guys from the old Iron Data team. There were lots of attacks in the first 35 miles, but nothing could stick.  I kept thinking there would be a separation on one of the hills, but nothing ever materialized. It came down to a 10 or 11 man field sprint, I was dead last, except for the few guys who got dropped.  The guy who won it is a McCafe rider and is the same guy that Bill, Jeff and I worked over at the Albany RR.  He is very strong and a hell of a nice guy.

At one point, about 20 miles in, he and another guy got a pretty good gap.  We were going up a little hill and there were 4 guys in front of me that appeared to be happy letting them go. Dale Hare from Economy Honda was behind me and yelled out that we really didn’t want to let those two guys get a way.  The four guys out front just continued to ride side by side and finally I told them if they weren’t going to chase they needed to get out of the way.  Me and one other guy brought the break back.  At that point, if someone had counter attacked, I would have been toast.

Near the end of the race the two guys from the old Iron Data team pulled a pretty good move that almost worked.  We were going into a full speed 90 degree turn and one of them was out front and the other one was sitting about 4th wheel.  The guy out front slowed down half way into the turn and the second guy attacked, it was timed perfectly and before we could get back up to speed the second guy was almost gone.

I felt pretty good and attacked a few times.  Near the end of the second lap I tried to get Mike the McCafe rider and another guy to work with me.  We were near the top of a little climb and if we had gotten a gap, I think there was a pretty good chance of holding it. They showed no interest.  I got separated a few times on the small climbs, but never felt like I was in danger of being dropped.  I’ve just got to work on my sprint.
